Belkin Chargers
The Task
The Vice President of Design for Belkin International reached out to us for 3D product rendering services. They needed to produce a number of high-quality renderings for their USB car and wall chargers, and were looking for consistent high-quality results across their eCommerce marketing channels.
Our task would be to work from their provided engineering 3D CAD files and produce white background and lifestyle renderings of their consumer products for eCommerce marketing.
The Process
Analysis and Preparation
Our team began by thoroughly analyzing the provided materials, including 3D CAD files, CMF documents, shot lists, and photographic references. This initial step was crucial to ensure we fully understood the project requirements.
Modeling and Camera Angles
Our artists optimized each CAD file and started prepping the initial camera angles, ensuring consistency across all product renderings. This involved setting up the main camera angles to match previous imagery and achieve a cohesive visual style. Since we were asked to render each product from roughly the same camera angle, we wanted to first be sure this was looking correct.
Texturing and Materials
After establishing the main camera angles for each product, we then began creating the materials and textures. Using photographic references, we created materials and textures that closely matched the provided imagery.
Given the 6K resolution requirement, we paid extra attention to finer texturing details to ensure high-quality outputs.
Lighting and Rendering
Lighting played a critical role determining the overall style of the renders.
Most of the products we were rendering were white, which can be tricky to light in and of itself, but beyond that, it was critical that the lighting properly highlighted each design from both a structural and material standpoint.
We meticulously adjusted the lighting to highlight the structural and material aspects of each design. The rendering process involved a comprehensive proofing process, including a fairly decent amount of post-production work to add specific highlights, increase shadows, and perform overall level adjustments for perfection.
The Results
In addition to the standard white background 3D renderings, we also produced multiple lifestyle images similar to the example below. For these, we composited 3D renderings of each product directly into stock photography while matching the lighting and shadows to ensure a realistic looking composition.
The final outputs successfully showcased Belkin's chargers, enhancing their visual appeal for eCommerce marketing.
