Fender Guitar Concept
The Task
Our original goal for this in-house project was to create a photorealistic 3D product rendering of an electric guitar. This project was meant to showcase our skills in producing high-quality 3D product renderings, and a Fender Stratocaster guitar, with all of it's intricacy and detail, seemed like a fun project that was a perfect fit to showcase our skills.
The Process
Initial Modeling
The project began like many others with gathering reference materials and modeling the structure of the guitar. This involved meticulously designing to get the right flow and shape for the body and neck, and smaller details primarily by eye to ensure accuracy. Most of the design had to be modeled simply by eye.
Once we had a 3D model that we were happy with, we then began the texturing process, or at least we had planned to, but that's when our entire vision for the project changed.
Unexpected Turn in Design
Before starting the texturing process, we applied a basic chrome-like material for test renders so we could see how our model was reacting to a basic lighting setup. These early renders looked so impressive that we decided to pivot our original plan.
We shifted towards creating a stylized guitar rendering that felt like the electricity from the guitar was coursing right through the entire image.
Advanced Texturing and Lighting
We revised the lighting setup and added lens flares and glares, and then some more of both, to enhance the stylized effect.
There was just one more thing that needed to done before we could be satisfied with the results. Our last trick up our sleeve was to use a procedural modifier to create a skeleton frame style body, adding a unique twist to the traditional guitar design.
The Results
What began as an exercise in 3D modeling and photo-realistic rendering of a Fender Stratocaster turned into the creation of truly unique and abstract design that we sincerely wish existed. The final images showcased an imaginative and electrifying visual concept, demonstrating our ability to innovate and push creative boundaries
